Moderation: Setup & Panel

The Moderation Panel is your behind-the-scenes control center for managing unified chat across multiple platforms during your livestream. With Chat Pro, all audience messages from different destinations flow into one centralized view, giving you complete visibility and control. The Moderation Panel lets you curate the conversation in real time by hand-selecting which messages get shown to viewers, filtering out inappropriate content, and keeping the on-screen chat experience dynamic, safe, and on-brand.

Here's a Look at the Moderation Panel

  1. Chat Pro List: If you're using more than one Chat Pro in your event, they'll be listed at the top. Each requires separate moderation, but you can toggle between them from this panel.
  2. Chat Preview: Shows you the chat window exactly how the audience sees it.
  3. Delay: The time between messages in the queue. Default is 20 seconds — but this really depends on volume. Lots of comments coming in? Lower the number so more get seen and no single comment sits on screen too long.
  4. All: Shows all incoming messages from every platform you're streaming to.
  5. Favorite: Shows all the messages you've favorited.
  6. Queue: The list of messages you've decided will be shown to the audience, displayed top to bottom.
  7. Send all messages to Queue: Toggling this on automatically sends all incoming messages to the queue.
  8. Filter words: We maintain a database of inappropriate, hateful, and harassing words, expressions, and emojis. Toggling this on filters those out — but note it only applies when "Send all messages to Queue" is also on.
  9. Enter additional words to filter: Add anything else you'd like filtered from chat here.
  10. Invite Moderator: Invite someone as a moderator. They'll only have access to the Moderation Panel — nothing else in your event or account.

That covers the basics of the Moderation Panel — but to understand how to use it, we need to discuss the symbols you see next to each message.

  • Arrow (gray): Click to send a message to the queue.
  • Heart (gray): Click to add a message to your favorites.
  • Arrow (green outline): Means you've already sent this message to the queue — you can send it again as many times as you'd like.
  • Heart (red): Means the message has been favorited. It's only in your favorites — it won't be seen by viewers until you also add it to your queue.
? Tip: Chat Pro requires a pretty hands-on approach, so for many types of events it may also require an extra set of hands — that's why we give you the option to invite moderators right from your Chat Pro element.

Now that you've had a look at the Moderation Panel and its functions, you have all the pieces you need to curate an exciting chat for your audience using Chat Pro.

How to Invite a Moderator

Chat Pro is an excellent tool for curating and displaying messages during your stream, but it often requires an extra set of hands to moderate the chat effectively. Recognizing this need, Effi has introduced a dedicated moderator role. This role allows you to invite someone to access the Chat Pro Moderation Panel exclusively, without making them a formal member of your team or giving them access to other parts of your account or events.

Effi gives you two ways to invite a Moderator.

Inviting Moderators from Stage

The first way is directly from your chat options in Stage.

  1. From within the event you want to invite a Moderator to, click on any Chat Pro to open its options menu.
  2. Scroll down and open "Moderations."

  3. Then click "Invite Moderator."

  4. This will open a modal where you'll be asked to fill in the name of the Moderator you'd like to invite. Enter the name and click "Create."
  5. In the next step you'll be given the option to invite the Moderator by email or with a link. You can do it immediately, or come back to it later.

  6. If you choose to come back to it later, any Moderators you created will be waiting for you in your options menu.

Inviting Moderators from the Moderation Panel

You can also invite Moderators from within the Moderation Panel.

  1. If you are not already in your Moderation Panel, from the Chat Options menu, open the Moderation Panel.

  2. Click the "Invite Moderator" button in the top right corner.

  3. This will open a modal where you'll be asked to fill in the name of the Moderator you'd like to invite. Enter the name and click "Create."

  4. In the next step you'll be given the option to invite the Moderator by email or with a link. You can do it immediately, or come back to it later.

  5. If you choose to come back to it later, any Moderator you created will be waiting for you here if you click the icon next to the "Invite Moderator" button.
? Important: Moderators only need to be invited once per event — even if you have multiple Chat Pros in an event, because there is only one Moderation Panel per event. However, Moderators do need to be invited on an event-by-event basis. If you invite a Moderator to one event and want them to moderate for you again, you will need to invite them again from the new event.
